Description of the Self-Chord P2P Application

چکیده
This paper presents the implementation of the “Self-Chord” P2P system. Self-Chord inherits the ability of Chord-like structured systems for the construction and maintenance of an overlay of peers, but features enhanced functionalities deriving from ant-inspired algorithms, such as autonomy behavior, self-organization and capacity to adapt to a changing environment. Self-Chord has three main advantages with respect to classical structured P2P systems, especially in the context of Grid and Cloud Computing: (i) it is possible execute range queries efficiently; (ii) the load balance among peers is improved; (iii) maintenance load is reduced because resources are spontaneously redistributed when peers disconnect or reconnect to the systems, or when resources are added/modified. In this paper, we summarize the main functionalities of the Self-Chord application, and illustrate the configuration and parameter settings, with the help of an example.

This paper presents “Self-Chord,” a peer-to-peer (P2P) system that inherits the ability of Chord-like structured systems for the construction and maintenance of an overlay of peers, but features enhanced functionalities deriving from ant-inspired algorithms, such as autonomous behavior, self-organization, and capacity to adapt to a changing environment. As opposed to the structured P2P systems ...
متن کاملCross-layer Mobile Chord P2P protocol design for VANET
Efficient content distribution is one of the emerging applications in vehicular networks. To provide scalable content distribution in vehicular networks, Chord peer-to-peer overlay could be applied. Most P2P protocols, including Chord, are designed for wired-line network, and might perform poorly in mobile networks. Mobile Chord (MChord) is proposed to enhance the P2P performance over vehicular...
متن کاملDistributed Aggregation Schemes for Scalable Peer-to-Peer and Grid Computing
Peer-to-Peer (P2P) systems and P2P Grids are evolving as two viable distributed computing paradigms for wide-area resource sharing on the Internet. To achieve scalable distribution of processing workload among the nodes, large-scale distributed systems such as P2P Grids need to acquire some global information in a fully decentralized fashion. This paper presents efficient schemes for building d...
متن کاملP2P MANET's - New Research Issues
1. What are P2P MANETs? A mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is a collection of mobile nodes that dynamically self organize in a wireless network without using any pre-existing infrastructure. In a MANET, the applications are typically “peer-to-peer” rather than “client-server”. Moreover, a MANET is often built to support a specific application, thus the networking is application-driven. For these r...
متن کاملExploiting network proximity in peer-to-peer overlay networks
Generic peer-to-peer (p2p) overlay networks like CAN, Chord, Pastry and Tapestry offer a novel platform for a variety of scalable and decentralized distributed applications. These systems provide efficient and fault-tolerant routing, object location and load balancing within a self-organizing overlay network. One important aspect of these systems is how they exploit network proximity in the und...
